Position Summary

 

The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the preparation, analysis, and reporting of accounting and production information for the manufacturing facilities.  The Staff Accountant will also have an active role in the corporate accounting function, organizational internal controls, and compliance.

 

Essential Duties and Requirements include, but are not limited to, the following items:

 

  • Compile and analyze financial information for the monthly accounting close process.
  • Oversee the physical inventories of production materials and maintenance parts; ensuring proper cutoff.
  • Obtain a workable understanding of the inventory, maintenance, and accounting systems.
  • Educate other employees on company policies, procedures, and practices. Monitor compliance and provide corrective action as necessary.
  • Actively pursue ways to improve, streamline, or automate existing processes.
  • Create and/or update written procedures for functional areas.
  • Research and implement cost management strategies; including but not limited to labor cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provide plant managers and supervisors with production data and transaction detail for review and analysis.
  • Complete all government census reporting and monthly/quarterly tax returns for the manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrate a strong, functional understanding of all plant departments and provide support to these departments as needed.
  • Assist with required financial and internal control audits.
  • Work with management to prepare the semiannual budget.
  • Review daily batch transactions.
  • Responsible for submitting accurate documents in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Perform technical research.
  • Contribute ideas and provide workable solutions as challenges or problems arise.
  • Execute special projects, as deemed necessary, from corporate and the Plant Managers.
  • Recognize and report food safety and employee safety issues.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

 

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.  A minimum of five to seven years accounting experience in a manufacturing setting is also preferred.

 

 

Other Requirements/Attributes

 

Candidates have to be proficient in a Windows environment, including Microsoft office and other database applications.  Mathematical skills are needed to complete business required math and formulas.

Language Skills

 

This position requires the ability to read, verify, and confirm all financial data in English.  Effective oral and written communication skills are a must. 

 

 

Reasoning Ability

 

Candidates must have the ability to understand and compile complex financial and tax information and analyze it for reasonableness.  Candidates should be able to use analytical skills and information available to format and create reports for management to use when making decisions.
