Position Summary:

Development of nut mixes, snack mixes, compound coated products, and various other snacks in a high growth environment make this joining the TH Foods an exciting opportunity of those looking for personal and professional growth.

 

R&D Scientist I, develops skills to conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. Also, supports maintenance of existing brands, such as cost savings projects and nutrition improvements. Selects appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing. Develops project timelines, creates technical proposals and reports and makes recommendations.

 

Essential Duties and Requirements include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Complete project objectives under with guidance of the R&D manager.
  • Conceptualize and develop new product prototypes to support New Product or Existing Business initiatives in snacking including nuts, snacks, mixes, chocolate and yogurt coatings.
  • Partner with Marketing to develop successful products which are launched on time and meet the project objectives.
  • Support of rice cracker and fried snack businesses as required.
  • Improve existing products by optimizing product formulas or attributes (cost, nutritional profiles, and ingredient statements).
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of project work.
  • Work with pilot plant equipment and external partners.
  • Conduct plant trials and new product start-ups, may require working off shifts and extended hours.
  • Learn and utilize on-line specification system and other Company software systems.
  • Develop raw material, packaging, finished product and processing specifications.
  • Responsible for recognizing and reporting food safety and employee safety issues.
  • Develop prototypes that deliver project objectives. This may include ordering and weighing ingredients, as well as assembling prototypes for product evaluation.
  • Execute and lead projects, taking a hands on approach to ensure success.

Required Background

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science or Food Engineering required
  • Comparable bachelors of science degree with experience will be considered

 

Experience

  • One to three years of food industry experience in relevant field.
