Job Description


Position Summary:   The Director of Marketing is responsible for creating and executing strategic and tactical market plans for business growth, both new products and new channels, leading to growth in sales and profits.  This is a corporate position based near Rockford, IL.


Essential Duties and Requirements include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Develop research base for identifying consumer propositions using sales data, Web sites, demo reports, complaints, and purchased IRI/SPINS                                                                        
  • Develop new sales channels by field research: customer visits, market surveys, and trade show participation                                              
  • Identify and develop product and package for market entry into new business platforms                                                         
  • Perform administrative functions for preparing consumer testing criteria, selling aids, present and future trends, and presentations to the trade                        


  • Brand management function including budgets and project


  • Support the Sales and R&D teams at trade shows                    


  • Manage Innovation Manager, R&D Manager and R&D team coordination for product concept, package, costing, and future product trend analysis




  1. Create Market research base for direction of product innovation
  2. Translate market data for direction in the organization
  3. Develop research base for identifying consumer propositions and the channels to reach them using sales data, Webb sites, demo reports, complaints, and purchased IRI/SPINS
  4. Analyze business and consumer trends and make marketing strategy based on those trends
  5. Create synergy between R&D, Sales, Marketing and Production functions to realize new business.

  2. Develop new customers and distribution channels according to corporate strategy.
  3. Understanding by customer visits, market surveys, and trade show participation to support marketing implementation.
  4. Find synergy between new business and capabilities of organization.

  2. Determine fit between consumer, product and package
  3. Provide direction in product packaging development for targeted consumer/market.
  4. Verify fit with appropriate market research
  5. Develop market plan
  6. Develop pathway to consumers/customers/channels
  7. Develop and track budget
  8. Integrate with Sales, R&D, and Production for costing, viability and strategic fit in organization


  1. Brand management function
  2. Support broker network with marketing tools, sales aids, and presentations
  3. Provide product, pricing, and promotional information to organization
  4. Create market plans and budget
  5. Target accounts for new business


  1. Administrative
  2. Management of budgets and project timelines and Cross Functional Teams
  3. Management of Innovation Manager to integrate with Corporate Goals
  4. Submit itineraries, expense reports, market report, budgets and sales plans timely


  1. Human Resource Development
    1. Develop individual staff talents-assess opportunity areas for improvement
    2. Develop functional team goals both long term and short term
    3. Develop succession plan for each key member of team
    4. Develop cross training plan for division



Job Requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct responsibility for R&D, Innovation, and New Business Development functions for TH Foods.

Education and/or Experience


            Required:       Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing

            Preferred:        MBA in Business or equivalent experience




  • Management of direct reports
  • 5 years experience in marketing consumer packaged foods, with Specialty Food background is a plus
  • Market research and channel development experience
  • Consumer proposition and packaging development experience
  • Budget development responsibility
  • R&D and product development coordination-preferably from concept to commercialization






  • Proficiency with word processing, spread sheets, and power point
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Sales aptitude skill-set
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Capable of prioritizing workload to maximize team support
  • Strong, general reasoning and analytical skills
  • Basic math and accounting

Work Environment

Works individually and must be a self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.  Good business judgment and flexibility will be required to keep up with constantly changing needs of customers and brokers.  This requires some travel (10-15%).  Will need excellent administrative and communicative skills to keep projects on track at the office or when traveling.  This position requires occasional weekend work and regular workdays in excess of eight hours per day.  Occasional lifting, bending, and carrying will be required due to shows and sample transport.
