Position Summary

 

The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for management of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll teams, as well as sustaining business practices and/or procedures for the Customer Order to Cash procedure and invoice/disbursement processing and payments, inclusive of sales/use tax accounting where required.

The Accounting Manager will also be required to monitor, confirm and report required metrics and manage the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll teams to achieve business objectives and will also have an active role in the corporate accounting function, organizational internal controls, and compliance.

 

Essential Duties and Requirements include, but are not limited to, the following items:

 

  • Play key role in optimizing the performance of the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable environments for all corporate and manufacturing locations
  • Oversee routine Accounts Payable department activities, such as ACH, wire and check disbursements, vendor invoice processing and expense vouchers to ensure that they are complete, accurate and processed timely.
  • Oversee routine Accounts Receivable department activities, including the posting of customer payments, general ledger updates and deduction tracking and reporting.
  • Assist the team with verifying the validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from sales, trade promotions, customer service departments, and from customers.
  • Investigate and resolve invalid deductions.
  • Manage and maintain customer and vendor relationships, as well as the terms of payments and receipts within company's cash flow guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain banking relationships.
  • Research and recommend credit limits for customers.
  • Support the Controller with cash management, including, but not limited to forecasting of supplier payments and collection of customer receipts.
  • Manages monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information ensuring accuracy.
  • Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.
  • Prepare monthly financial supporting schedules for the internal Director meetings.  
  • Educate other employees on company policies, procedures, and practices. Monitor compliance and provide corrective action as necessary.
  • Actively pursue ways to improve, streamline, or automate existing processes.
  • Create and/or update written procedures for functional areas.
  • Demonstrate a strong, functional understanding of the general ledger.
  • Manage special projects affecting accounting and finance on an as needed basis.
  • Assure the protection of the company’s assets by maintaining a strong system of internal controls.
  • Assist with required financial and internal control audits.
  • Work with management to prepare the semiannual budget.
  • Review daily batch transactions.
  • Responsible for submitting accurate documents in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Perform technical research.
  • Contribute ideas and provide workable solutions as challenges or problems arise.
  • Develop team members.
  • Recognize and report food safety and employee safety issues.
  • Oversee the routine payroll function, including ensuring employees are paid timely and accurately.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains payroll staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains payroll staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • With support from HR, ensure the company is in compliance with all labor laws.
  • Ensure all payroll reporting is accurate and filed in a timely basis.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

This job is responsible for management of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll teams.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

 

Required:  Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with accounting emphasis is required. MBA a plus.  Must have 7 plus years of experience, with this experience including managing either Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable as a shared service function.

Requires knowledge of computers and spreadsheet software.  Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning software such as SAP or Oracle a plus.

 

 

Mathematical Skills

Mental ability is required to complete business required math and formulas.  Good analytical skills a must.

 

Other Requirements/Attributes

 

Candidates have to be proficient in a Windows environment, including Microsoft office and other database applications.  Mathematical skills are needed to complete business required math and formulas.

Language Skills

 

This position requires the ability to read, verify, and confirm all financial data in English.  Effective oral and written communication skills are a must. 

 

 

Reasoning Ability

 

Candidates must have the ability to understand and compile complex financial and tax information and analyze it for reasonableness.  Candidates should be able to use analytical skills and information available to format and create reports for management to use when making decisions.
